American Gymkhana, a restaurant and lounge specializing in modern Indian cuisine opened last weekend. Most Indian food is well, intimidating if you’re not familiar with the spices and what to order. American Gymkhana’s modern approach is sure to liven up your palate and introduce you to some new flavors. Located on Restaurant Row, this space is relaxing, vibrant and similar to what  you might see in a trendy New York City restaurant. Spork got a preview of American Gymkhana’s last week, here’s our top picks for menu items and beverages:

  • Gymkhana Chicken: Classic chicken tikka, served on a skewer and perfectly crisp! Similar in my opinion to fried chicken, this slice of heaven is lightly crunchy, juicy and unlike any other chicken dish in town.
  • Sparking Saffron: Sparkling wine cocktail with a saffron aroma. At first I was a little put off by the thought of saffron mixed with sparkling wine, but it was actually a nice pairing and not too sweet like most sparking wine cocktails. Bonus points to American Gymkhana for the incredible bar space! It’s open, but intimate and contains bar seating in addition to small tables.
  • Jalisco Sour: Tequila and jalapeño infused maple syrup shaken with lime and curry leaves. A perfect drink for someone who’s “tried them all”, it was quite strong for my taste, but my husband was a huge fan!

American Gymkhana is located on Orlando’s Restaurant Row, at 7559 West Sand Lake Road. Click here for more on Orlando’s newest restaurant.
